Love this! The photo doesn’t do it justice. It shines pink or purple depending on the light. Its very sheer. This is two coats. I purchased this from Nail Polish Canada.

December Luxe Box

23 Dec

I’ve been subscribing to Luxe Box since July. Generally I’ve been quite pleased with them and the November box was fabulous. Lots of samples and a good mix of products.

Here’s December’s box:

I do like the personalized stickers on the tissue paper.

Ta da!

So what’s in this month’s box?

IMG_0713

Samples of Paco Rabanne 1 Million for men and Lady Million for Women.

IMG_0715

I don’t like the women’s fragrance at all. I gave the men’s to my husband and he likes it alright. Not impressed with the size of these samples – they’re the same size that you get from the department store.

IMG_0711

Yves Rocher Italian Mandarin Shower Gel

Again, not keen on the smell of this. I’ve used Yves Rocher products before and generally, they’re pretty good.

IMG_0714

DDF Advanced Firming Cream

I haven’t tried this yet. The full sized product is $140 so looking forward to giving it a try.

NYX Eye Pencil in Black

This is this month’s full size product – a $4 drug store brand eyeliner. Not overly impressed. It doesn’t seem like a bad eyeliner at all, but for a “deluxe sample box”, I don’t think this really fits in. A more interesting colour would have been a bit more exciting.

Overall impression of this month’s Luxe Box – meh. I’m only excited about one of 4 samples (I’m counting both fragrance samples as one). The fragrance samples are tiny and the eyeliner is something that I can get from Pharma Plus so not deluxe at all. I really liked last month’s box (skin care by Benefit, nail polish) so I’ll keep Luxe Box for another month and see how it goes. Its slightly more expensive then Glymm ($13.56 for Luxe, Glymm is $11.30) and they seem to have all kinds of issues with their shipping. If I was basing my decision whether to continue my subscription or not on December’s box, I would cancel. But I’m hoping that January is better.

December Glymm Box

20 Dec

I’ve been subscribed to Glymm Box for a couple of months. Part of the reason why I decided to start this blog was to keep track of my various sample boxes (I subscribe to Luxe Box too).

So what’s in this month’s box?

IMG_0690

The box is always pretty pink. I like to save them for gifts.

IMG_0691

Tied up with ribbon a a pretty holiday card.

IMG_0692

Samples!! The jelly beans barely made it past this photo. Also had to keep my cat away as he always wants to eat the packing materials.

Caudalie Vinoperfect Enzymatic Peel Mask

I haven’t tried this yet, but I can always use a good exfoliator.

IMG_0694

AHAVA Mineral Hand Cream

This is very nice. Very moisturizing but not greasy and has a like scent that isn’t overpowering.

IMG_0697

Yves Saint Laurent La Parisienne

I wasn’t sure about this scent at first, but after wearing it for a bit, I quite like it. Not something I would buy, but the sample is a decent size so it should last a while.

Sula Beauty Natural Lip Gloss (full sized)

This is my favourite sample from this month’s box. I really like the colour. Its not too bright, very glossy and not too sticky.

There was also a gift card for $10 off Glymm’s Beauty Boutique. I have some reward points stacked up so I might look into ordering something soon.

Overall, I’m quite happy with this month’s box. All of the products are things that I would use and there’s a nice mix (make up, skin care, fragrance). My Luxe Box is in transit with Canada Post so I’ll post a review of that once it arrives.

NOTD: Revlon Fall Mood

13 Dec

This is from the new Revlon Colorstay Longwear line. I bought this yesterday at Shopper’s Drugmart for $8.99. According to the display, it lasts up to 11 days. The above picture was taken at the end of day one.  No chips yet, but I’m kind of bored with the colour already.

Base: Essie First Base

Top Coat: Essie Good to Go

Maybelline Dream Matte Powder

12 Dec

I’ve been on the look out for a drugstore mattifying pressed powder. I’ve been using MAC Pressed Blot Powder which I really like but a less expensive alternative is always a good thing.

I picked this up this morning at Shopper’s Drugmart – Maybelline Dream Matte Powder. It was on sale for $6.99. I believe that the regular price is around $13 so good deal. There was four colours to choose from. I picked up beige which is the second darkest colour. I normally use Medium or Medium Dark in the blot powder, so I figured this would be a good match. One of the biggest reasons why I purchase the majority of my make up from either Sephora or MAC rather than drugstores is that not being able to try the product drives me nuts! I hate coming home with something that’s completely not what I thought it would be.

Luckily, Dream Matte Powder did not fall into that category. It took away any shine without leaving a noticeable powdery finish. The colour works well with my skin tone.

The packaging is a bit odd. The mirror and sponge swing out from the bottom and its a bit awkward to hold while applying the product.

So far, I’m happy with this powder, especially at the price.

Aside

NOTD: Lacey Lilac

10 Dec

Base: Sally Hansen Diamond Strength Base and top Coat

1 Coat Sally Hansen Hard as Nails in Lacey Lilac

1 Coat Sally Hansen Diamond Strength in Pretty Petunia

Top Coat: Essie Good to Go

I really like Lacey Lilac (on the right) but the finish is pretty flat. Pretty Petunia added a nice pink shimmer to it.

Welcome!

9 Dec

Welcome to my blog!

I’m a Canadian lady in my early 30’s who’s slightly addicted to beauty products. High end, salon quality, drug store brand – I love it all. I enjoy trying new products and wanted to have a place to document my finds so here’s my little spot on the internet to do just that.
